JEFF
HARTRANFT
TROMBONE 1
Jeff grew up in Lancaster County, having graduated from Garden Spot High School.
He was a member of the New Holland Band for more than 25 years and a student
of Russ Sumpman, Marlin Houck, and Jere Friday all of whom had a profound effect
on his life and musical interests. After college and a brief stint in Western New
York, Jeff returned to Lancaster County and began his career as an ecologist and
environmental scientist for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He married his
wife, Kristen, in 1997 and they have two daughters and a son. He currently is an
Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 115 and the proud parent of an Eagle
Scout. Jeff is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys backpacking, hunting, and hiking
with his dog. He is a skilled butcher, and is known to process his friend’s harvest
for the mere price of a venison tenderloin. His venison scrapple is to die for. Jeff is
an active member of the Corsair Blue Jazz Orchestra in Lancaster, the Heidelberg
Brass Band in Reinholds, and the Red Rose Brass Quartet. One of the greatest
thrills for Jeff is playing in various bands with his bother, Eric, who is an
accomplished reed player, frequent substitute with the Moonlighters, and director
of the Susquehanna Township High School Band.
